MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD

MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD

Coincidental bumping in,

Man who sold the world,

Greetings exchanged,

Thought you were dead said.

Drinks offered and accepted

Laughing at the beginning of the night,

Beer after beer,

Shots all round.

Into the depths of drunk,

Late night,

Mellowing down,

Deepening conversations.

Questions like “Why?” finally asked.

“I don’t know”

Streaking tear wiped after taking a shot

In the semi dark.

Followed by “fuck”

Cigarette lit,

“They asked me for a price,

And I being fucked out of my mind named it.

Who knew, not me.”

Another shot taken,

Moment of conversational silence

Amidst the background noise,

Tray lifted and sniffed,

“You sold the world,” said

Tray passed over,

Cigarette ashed,

Shot thrown back

Minor wince,

“I know.”
